Shell Hydrocarbon Hunt VR Game

Shell wanted an educational VR experience that could be used as a recruitment tool to engage American students aged 14 to 17.

Atticus created a fun virtual reality game for Shell to be used on Google Cardboard. By gamifying the experience, students were able to explore a home and identify everyday items made with petrochemicals racing to complete the game in under 3 minutes.

Challenges

To take the complex idea of petrochemicals and break it down in a way for students to understand. Atticus had to ensure that the app would be playable on multiple devices and platforms.

Solution

Atticus was able to take the complex concept of petrochemicals and output it through game play by getting the students to interact with objects in the home. Through optimisation Atticus was able to ensure the app played on multiple devices and platforms while maintaining the best image quality in a 360° environment. The app was built to perform in 2D and in VR, to provide flexibility of game play for the students.

Platform:

Google Cardboard, Samsung Galaxy S6 and equivalent, iphone
